William F. Dyer, Sr.

William F. Dyer, Sr., 91, died Monday, November 9, 2009 under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Dyer was born in Des Moines, IA on April 5, 1918, the son of the late Ezekiel Benton and Ellen Teachout Dyer. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps at the age of 22 which brought him to Savannah. He was a World War II veteran having served as an Aerial Reconnaissance Photographer. Upon his honorable discharge he used his talent in photography and opened a studio in Savannah. He later began his career in furniture sales. After building an extensive client base be began a successful business, Dyer's Furniture. He was a faithful and longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a member of Acacia Lodge #452, F.&A.M. for over 30 years, a member of American Legion Post #184 and the Elks Lodge of Savannah.
Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy Thompson Dyer. He is survived by his children, Louellen Dyer Padgett and husband Roscoe, Ethel Dyer Stewart, William F. "Bill" Dyer, Jr. and wife Susan, Charles B. "Charlie" Dyer and wife Marisa and Margaret Dyer Ubele and husband Chris; grandchildren, Richard Saunders, Jr., Kevin Dyer, Will Dyer, Kelly Cleghorn, Amy Daughrill, Bobby Dyer, Kysia Davis and Kristen Ubele; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral service: 11:00 A.M. Friday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with Rev. Steve Meguiar officiating, assisted by Medie T. Still.
Active and Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Acacia Lodge #452, F.&A.M.
Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites and Military Honors.
